quiz #4

1) Hallmark #5. You can see the throughout the entire book. Right off the bat, you can Strayer uses a "feminist approach". He talks about a lot of women roles that not many history books tend to do.He did a lot of side stories of women who didn't conform to the "normal" things women were suppose o do.  He shows a variety of political, social, economic, and cultural traditions of the different regions not one or two to use as examples. He gave you a different view of different societies that you were not used to hearing about. For example, the Mongols. They were always shown as "barbarians". Strayer shows that they also let you kept your own religions and women were also consulted by Genghis. He gives you a detailed synopsis of all types of religion like Buddhism, Islam, Christianity. You learn about agriculture, nomadic, pastoral and how each of them shaped our history.
2) The book that we read really reached and met every learning outcome of this class. The book talks about every religion, every types of societies no matter how small. Since Strayer tends to give you a different version of what you learned in history classes before and. it really makes you think and possibly change your mind. For example once again, we have been taught as mean people but were they any worse than when we conquered the Native Americans or the Spanish conquering the people of South America. I did like two things that we did in class. One is the story of Gilgamesh. It really help me to visually see how humans evolved from living like animals to living as humans who ate the animals The other one I liked, was the women vs men. It really gave you perspective of women went thru when they didn't have a voice and how they fought to have one. I like that the women stood u as one and walked out. We stood up for our rights too. It took a little awhile but than for modern technology.
3) I don't think we are moving past the "post-Modern" society. Capitalism doesn't even seem to regulated. You see the big boys like Google, Apple, or Facebook spreading like crazy. You can see they keeping expanding their real estate around here. My sister's old work was in building that Google bought because Google was denied by Mountain View to build a bigger building like Apple did in Cupertino. They bought all the surrounding buildings too so that mountain View couldn't rent or sell the building to other businesses and receive property tax revenues.  I also see time and time again that people are being scammed by other people because the government doesn't keep a closer eye the scammers. Environmental sustainability doesn't seem to be a critical number #1 goal for companies. It is the survival of the fittest and that does include cutting corners like dumping waste into the bay.The government should be very cautious in this modern era. We are now living in a nuclear world where a push of a button the world can be destroyed and that is a scary thought. We need equality in our civilizations. Man vs women pay should have been equal a long time ago. It is amazing how slow this concept has been changing. I can still see it at work. I can still see clients wanting to hear from a man instead of women even though it was the same answer to the question.
